A warm welcome to those intending to Register for the 2024 National Rally hosted by the Auckland Citroën Car Club, to be held in Warkworth/Mahurangi region north of Auckland.
The Bridgehouse Lodge in the heart of Warkworth, is our basecamp. Here we hold our reception event and the two dinners, the second being the prize giving dinner. Warkworth, with a rich history and the hub of the Matakana Coast, is found at the head of the Mahurangi Harbour. The town bridge (alongside Bridgehouse Lodge) sits above an historic weir that provided fresh water for the town’s original industry. In the 1930s, the weir famously served as a bathing pond for elephants when the circus came to town. Warkworth is in the northern part of the Auckland region and is located on State Highway 1, 64km north of Auckland and 98km south of Whangarei. A new toll motorway (pay online at tollingonline.nzta.govt.nz) speeds up the journey from Auckland considerably, but the old north road is still in use.
New Zealand’s main satellite communications ground station is located 5 km south of Warkworth. We will utilise the VCC Clubrooms there as part of our rally format.
It’s a playground for Aucklander’s keen to visit great beaches (Omaha, Mathesons Bay, Pakiri) and the Tawharanui Regional Park. The area is also home to many vineyards, sculpture parks, artisan manufacturers, heritage trails, and parks (Parry Kauri Park, and Kowhai Park for huge totara and matai).
Weekend traffic can be chaotic, especially at the Saturday Matakana market and for this reason, we are holding the rally mid-week on the 5th, 6th and 7th March. This timeslot also meshes well with the Auckland Brit and Euro Classic Car show on Sunday 3rd March.
Accommodation in the area is at a premium in March, so if you’re intending to join, we recommend that you consider pencil booking. There are some ‘Boutique’ or ‘Classic’ Rooms held at Bridgehouse Lodge for a limited time at a special price. Contact Ramona Holt at the Bridgehouse.
We are looking forward to another successful CCCNZ National Rally that reunites old friends.
