Welcome to the registration of interest for the RAID 2CV NOVEMBER 2021

An outline of the programnne follows.This is followed by a registration form  for you to register your interest. We will be in touch with you shortly after receiving your registration.

2CV Raid East Cape Approximate Route

Starting from Hastings with a kick-off dinner, Monday 15th November probably at a winery.

DAY 2 Tuesday 16th We head north along SH2 with a lunch stop at Morere , where you can have a soak in the pools before we continue  through too Gisborne.

DAY 3 17th November has several options around Gisborne such as a visit to Dive Tatapouri for a world famous interactive marine experience with Stingrays. take

Or if you prefer wander through Eastwood Arboretum. Another option is to Discover the Tupapa 4km Heritage Trail.

Alternatively, a mini winery tour A tour of cellar doors leads to favourites like Millton Vineyards, loved for riesling and chenin blanc; Matawhero Wines, where you can taste some of the region’s famous chardonnays; and Bridge Estate, which has a cellar door in a 120-year-old stable. Around lunchtime you’ll want to be at Bushmere Estate, which has an acclaimed restaurant – The Vines.

And you can mix and match these option and more. Afterwards a visit TW wines, . Probably a BBQ tea.

DAY 4 18th November head north via a back road into the hills to exit at Tolaga Bay. experience the longest wharf in New Zealand at 660 metres is entrenched with history that can be read about at the gates. Picnic lunch on the beach.

Continue onto Tokomaru bay our overnight stop with Tavern meal.

DAY 5 19th November continue North with a brief stop at Te Puia Springs to visit St Margaret’s memorial church. Possible 4 hr tour with Ngati Porou. Otherwise Coffee at Hati Nati, Ruatoria. Lunch at Tikitiki School and drive with children. Just along the SH a stop at St Marys Church. Onward to Hicks Bay Motel.. The travel out to the East Cape Lighthouse. A short walk from the road end up to the light house. Return to the Hicks Bay Motel for dinner.

DAY 6 20th November  Down to Hicks bay and along to the wharf. Return to continue onto Lottin Point for morning tea at the Lottin Bay Motel. Onward to a picnic lunch at Te Kaha.Next stop “Torere Macadamias” and then a stop at the Opotiki Heritage and Agriculture Museum, then to our nights accommodation at the Opotiki Motor Camp, or the Eastland Pacific Motor Lodge. Dinner at the Crossroads Gastro Pub.

DAY 7 21st November   Coffee at the Hot Bread shop cafe then depart for Whakatane where we will first drive up to Kohi point lookout and on the way down a brief stop a West End Lookout.. A stop at Wairere falls 5 min very easy walk, then proceed onto Muriwai Drive to park at the Whakatane Boat Ramp. View Muriwais Cave, Mataatua Waka replica and Lady on the rock, a pleasant short walk between them. Lunch at the Wairaka Centennial Park nearby. Depart for Murupara, stopping at Covell Estate wines at1076 Troutbeck Road, Galatea. Accommodation at either Flaxy Lodge motels or the Murupara Motor Camp.  Dinner at D’ Cafe Murupara

DAY 8 22nd November Coffee at D’cafe then  depart Murupara for Minginui taking a slow tour around the forgotten settlement then onto River Road down to the DoC Car Park. Here we will take a 3.2 km easy, well-graded track that passes through magnificent podocarp forest to the  spectacular Waiatiu falls. Take your camera. Duration 1 hr 45 mins. Some may wish to walk the 11 km loop track with a duration of 3hr 45mins. We continue on to Ruatahuna where we will visit early childhood centre – Te Kohanga REO O Ruatahuna for lunch and possibly a ride time for the children. Departing Ruatahuna, we have a brief stop at the Te Urewera Visitor centre at lake Waiklaekoana. After a coffee, if they have this operating, we head for Wairoa for pour penultiomate night stop.

DAY 9 23rd November Wairora to Hastings. We will follow some of the route we took on the 2019 Post Rally Tour  Hastings. If we have a clear day the Bell Rock loop track at 5.3 kms  3hr return provides breathtaking views over Hawkes Bay. Continue onto Glenfalls DoC Campsite for lunch.(if you skipped the Bell Rock Walk). Onto SH5 then leave SH5 at Glengarry following the back roads Dartmoor, Vicarage Rd, just missing the Puketapu pub, Swamp road to the Hastings Top 10 Motor camp, our final destination.

Just under 900kms total. So not quite as demanding at our 2020 Raid.
